Teammate of fallen JRU player says he did not receive immediate medical attention; Officials say otherwise

JL Sta. Maria, Jose Rizal University (JRU) Light Bombers player, said his teammate Carl Jimwell “CJ” Servillon did not receive immediate medical attention when the latter suffered a seizure during a basketball game.

JRU player Servillon, 17, passed away two days after he fell into a comatose state after collapsing during the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup game against De La Salle Zobel last May 24, 2015.

According to GMA News, Sta.Maria said Servillon was already complaining of dizziness during the pre-game warm-up. He also stated that the medical team arrived late which made angered their coach. “‘Yung player namin wala nang heartbeat. ‘Yung medic wala, ang tagal. Kaya galit na galit ‘yung coach namin,” Sta. Maria stated.

Currently, Servillon’s family is contemplating on filing a complaint against the organizers of the basketball tournament.

Basketball league officials say CJ received proper medical assistance

According to Inquirer, officials of the preseason basketball league said Servillon was able to receive proper emergency medical assistance.

Tournament director Joey Guillermo said the rescue team did everything they could to revive Servillon. “They made sure he reached the hospital alive. We understand that the family is looking for answers,” Guillermo stated.

From the time the rescue team came to assist him to the time he was brought to the ambulance, it was just four minutes. They were able to reach the hospital in six minutes,” Guillermo further stated.

The league officials already had a dialogue with Servillon’s family when they visited his wake last May 26, 2015.
