Ayala Corp Intends to Bid for $3.8 B PH Government Railway Contract

The infrastructure unit of Ayala Corporation is planning to bid for a $3.8 billion or P170.7 billion Philippine government railway project. In fact, AC Infrastructure Holdings Corp  President Eric Francia announced on Monday that the company has already started talks with potential partners.

Considered as the largest road and railway project that the government is offering for private-public partnership programme, the North-South Railway Project-South Line involves rehabilitating and adding railway lines to connect Manila to Legazpi City in Albay as well as other areas in between.

According to Public Private Partnership Center, the project consists of railway operations “between Tutuban and Calamba and long haul railway operations between Tutuban and Legazpi, including extended long haul rail operations on the branch line between Calamba and Batangas and extension between Legazpi and Matnog”.

Furthermore, the project aims to entice private investment in the Philippines.

Currently, AC Infrastructure Holdings Corp has not mentioned its probable partners in the project. Moreover, the government is yet to set a particular date for its acceptance but most likely it will be this year.

Speaking to reporters, Francia said: ”To us, it is the most interesting one out of those big ticket projects.”

“If and when that is bidded out, it is something that we would like to take a serious look at,” he added.

Known as one the biggest and most diversified business groups in the Philippines, Ayala Corporation runs businesses in finical services, real estate, automotive dealership and distributorship, telecommunications, electronics manufacturing services, power, water and used water services, business process outsourcing, as well as  transport infrastructure.
